We all have a story to tell …you have lived it…now share it with all those that matter to you, family and friends…
Every one of us leaves a legacy. We’ll be remembered not just for our accomplishments, but for the things we did that touched other people’s lives.
One of the most meaningful gifts you can leave your family — and generations you will never meet … is your story. Not a formal book, not something perfect, just the truth about who you are, where you came from, and the moments that shaped your life.
I believe every person has a gift for sharing through writing or speaking. Many of us have used it before, and then as we get older, we stop. But I promise you this: your story matters more than you know, and someone in your family will be grateful you took the time to save it.
I’ve spent the last several years writing articles and books, doing recordings, and documenting my life and my family history. It has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I only wish my parents, brother and other family members had done more of it, because so much of what we lose is simply lost because nobody ever wrote it down or recorded it in some manner.
So, I want to offer something to you, my friends:
I’ve created a simple/detailed template (no…that’s not a contradiction…you will understand later) that anyone can use to write a personal biography — a family history — your story.
You can go as far back as you can remember or research, include as much or as little detail as you want, and update it as the years go by. You can write it by hand, dictate it into your phone, record it and have someone transcribe it, or type it into a document. There is no “right way.” The only wrong way is waiting until it’s too late.
What should you include?
Anything that tells future generations who you really were:
• Where you came from
• What school was like
• Your family life — good and bad
• Values you lived by
• Hard decisions you had to make
• Relationships that changed you
• Successes, failures, lessons learned
• Turning points and memories
• The people who made you who you are
Our children and grandchildren are extensions of where we came from…now share. We don’t change as much as we think — but we can grow, and we can share what helped us become better people.
If you’d like the template, message me your email and I’ll send it to you in a PDF.
If you want a little coaching, I’m offering short calls to share what I’ve learned over the past few years. I can’t promise I’ll get to everyone immediately, but I will schedule calls and help.
This is my Christmas gift to you — and a special New Year’s invitation to give your family something they can cherish for decades and generations to come. Share it with your brothers, sisters, parents, aunts, uncles… get your whole family writing. It will change how you see one another.
Let’s preserve the stories that matter.
Message me if you want to get started….write on !!!
